Throughout its history, JDC used audiovisual media to document its work, commissioning films and videos of its relief operations and sound recordings of speeches and radio broadcasts. THROUGH TRAVELS WITH JDC, CONNECTING MY FAMILY TO THE In November 2019, Fred and I were lucky enough to attend the opening ceremony of the Active Jewish Teens (AJT) conference in Ukraine. AJT was founded in 2014 by local teens and JDC, and it’s powered by a partnership with the Genesis Philanthropy Group and part of the BBYOglobal movement.
THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP JDC is the leading, global Jewish humanitarian organization, working in 70 countries to lift lives and strengthen communities. We rescue Jews in danger, provide aid to vulnerable Jews, develop innovative solutions to Israel’s most complex social challenges, cultivate a Jewish future, and lead the Jewish community’s response to crises. GLOBAL JEWISH REFLECTIONS I found holiness in Jerusalem, too, where I had the amazing opportunity to join an Entwine group from Michigan. Together we stood, shoulder-to-shoulder, overlooking East Jerusalem and sharing falafel sushi on a food tour in the shuk (marketplace). I realized that WORLD WAR II REFUGEES AND DISPLACED PERSONS With the rise of Nazism, JDC spearheaded an intensive emigration effort, working to identify escape routes and safe havens. It helped refugees obtain visas and transport, provided assistance en route, and aided many once they reached their destinations. LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE CHILDREN OF CYPRUS During the summer of 1946, the British Mandate in Palestine had to address the problem of an increasing number of illegal immigrants. Most were Holocaust survivors who were trying to start a new life in a new country, only to encounter locked gates.FINDING AID

This past Sunday, October 10, the city of Timisoara opened the doors of a new Jewish Community Center ( JCC )—the fourth in Romania following others in Bucharest, Oradea, and Iasi. More than 300 people attended the opening celebration, which included a concert followed by an “after-party” for local Jewish youth. REFUGE IN SHANGHAI (1938-1953) Refuge in Shanghai (1938-1953) The Nazi “Anschluss,” the annexation of Austria by Germany in March 1938, touched off a great tide of refugee migration to Shanghai, and some 17,000 residents of Central Europe streamed to the city from 1938-1939. This past Sunday, October 10, the city of Timisoara opened the doors of a new Jewish Community Center ( JCC )—the fourth in Romania following others in Bucharest, Oradea, and Iasi. More than 300 people attended the opening celebration, which included a concert followed by an “after-party” for local Jewish youth. REFUGE IN SHANGHAI (1938-1953) Refuge in Shanghai (1938-1953) The Nazi “Anschluss,” the annexation of Austria by Germany in March 1938, touched off a great tide of refugee migration to Shanghai, and some 17,000 residents of Central Europe streamed to the city from 1938-1939.
