JDC ARCHIVES

Throughout its history, JDC used audiovisual media to document its work, commissioning films and videos of its relief operations and sound recordings of speeches and radio broadcasts. THROUGH TRAVELS WITH JDC, CONNECTING MY FAMILY TO THE In November 2019, Fred and I were lucky enough to attend the opening ceremony of the Active Jewish Teens (AJT) conference in Ukraine. AJT was founded in 2014 by local teens and JDC, and it’s powered by a partnership with the Genesis Philanthropy Group and part of the BBYO

global movement.

THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP JDC is the leading, global Jewish humanitarian organization, working in 70 countries to lift lives and strengthen communities. We rescue Jews in danger, provide aid to vulnerable Jews, develop innovative solutions to Israel’s most complex social challenges, cultivate a Jewish future, and lead the Jewish community’s response to crises. GLOBAL JEWISH REFLECTIONS I found holiness in Jerusalem, too, where I had the amazing opportunity to join an Entwine group from Michigan. Together we stood, shoulder-to-shoulder, overlooking East Jerusalem and sharing falafel sushi on a food tour in the shuk (marketplace). I realized that WORLD WAR II REFUGEES AND DISPLACED PERSONS With the rise of Nazism, JDC spearheaded an intensive emigration effort, working to identify escape routes and safe havens. It helped refugees obtain visas and transport, provided assistance en route, and aided many once they reached their destinations. LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE CHILDREN OF CYPRUS During the summer of 1946, the British Mandate in Palestine had to address the problem of an increasing number of illegal immigrants. Most were Holocaust survivors who were trying to start a new life in a new country, only to encounter locked gates.
