GRADUATE WOMEN VICTORIA Graduate Women Victoria offers an annual program of scholarships and bursaries to female students enrolled in Victorian universities. Donations to our scholarship fund can be made through the Australian Communities Foundation; see our 'Support Graduate Women Victoria

SCHOLARSHIPS

Graduate Women Victoria offers an annual program of scholarships and bursaries for women students enrolled in universities in Victoria. Our organisation has been awarding scholarships to Victorian women since 1931; see here for lists of previous scholarship winners, and here for a report from a winner. Scholarship applications open each year in ABOUT US - GRADUATE WOMEN VICTORIA ABOUT US. Graduate Women Victoria members enjoy a picnic. Our association was founded in 1920 as an association of women graduates who were inspired by the foundation of the International Federation of University Women earlier in the same year. AFUW Victoria joined associations of women graduates in other states to form the Australian ADVOCACY - GRADUATE WOMEN VICTORIA Graduate Women Victoria works to promote the protection and extension of women’s rights in the public arena, especially women’s rights to access education and its benefits. Within Victoria we regularly approach the State Government on matters relating to women’s rights. A central concern has been the need for properly funded and regulated REPORTS FROM AWARD WINNERS We are delighted to publish here reports from our award winners on their activities. Here is a research report from Ruth Jackson, winner of the Ethel McLennan Bursary in 2007.. Minh Le writes about her research trip to Vietnam, and Penny Scott presents the results of her research into Australian employment law, specifically on junior wages and residential tenancy. Scholarship applications open in December and are available in these categories: SUPPORT GWV SCHOLARSHIPS Support GWV Scholarships. Our scholarships are funded from bequests from deceased members and generous donations from members and supporters. Major past donors are listed here. Graduate Women Victoria welcomes donations and sponsorship of our scholarships and bursaries by individuals or groups. In this way we can increase the number and

Three scholarships and five bursaries are offered to female students undertaking a PhD or doctoral degree course at a Victorian University The Judith Rodriguez Scholarship, the William and Elizabeth Fisher Scholarship, and the Yvonne Aitken Scholarship are valued at $8000

each.

CENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP Centennial Scholarship. The Centennial Scholarship (valued at $9000) celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the founding in 1920 of our association under the name The Victorian Women Graduates Association. Something of the history of the early years can be learned from a short history of the association put together in 1961 by then

APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS . Graduate Women Victoria offers an annual program of scholarships and bursaries for women students enrolled in universities in Victoria. Graduate Women Victoria offers scholarships to female students who have overcome or are currently overcoming disadvantage in pursuing their SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES FOR PHD AND DOCTORAL DEGREE Three scholarships and five bursaries are offered to female students undertaking a PhD or doctoral degree course at a Victorian University The Judith Rodriguez Scholarship, the William and Elizabeth Fisher Scholarship, and the Yvonne Aitken Scholarship are valued at $8000

each.

Request to Federal Minister for Education concerning recent Job-Ready Legislation. In October 2020 Graduate Women Victoria wrote to the Federal Minister for Education, Dan Tehan, asking him to reconsider those aspects of the Government’s Job-Ready Legislation which disadvantage students who select a course in the humanities.
