Situated at the eastern end of Kofu basin, Katsunuma is the highest quality Koshu producing region in Japan.The fan-shaped sandy soil area around Katsunuma, with superb water drainage capacity, was long regarded as an area particularly suitable for grapegrowing.

Yamanashi de Grace. VINTAGE 2019. The wine is based on Muscat Bailey A from contract growers in the Hosaka district, Nirasaki city, at the foot of Mt. Kayagatake in northwestern Yamanashi prefecture, blended with estate bordeaux varieties from Misawa Vineyard. CUVÉE MISAWA AKENO KOSHU A blessed first half of the growing season by good weather, ended-up in an arduous last half during maturity. “Cuvée Misawa Akeno Koshu 2016” was made through laboriously treasuring the rare sunny days, but fortunately, at the world’s largest wine competition, the “Decanter World Wine Award”, it got a top score of 98 points.

In other parts of the Yamanashi prefecture, there were rainy days in July, and August was cloudy, but the influence on Misawa Vineyard was limited, and impact on grapes was minimized via proper management.

Cuvée Misawa. VINTAGE 2018. While I was still a student, the 1999 harvest was deeply engraved in my heart. Before establishing our vineyard in Akeno, my father said to me during the harvest at Toriibira Vineyard, “If you hesitate, throw them all away,” and that year we only produced one barrel of Merlot.
