LAND CONSERVATION

The Georgia Conservancy believes that land conservation is a key to protecting our water resources, our plants and animals, and our citizens. It is for that reason that we have made land conservation a cornerstone of our work. #thisismyga MINING NEAR THE OKEFENOKEE The proximity to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, which is one of Georgia’s most precious ecological sites and wilderness areas, heightens Georgia Conservancy concerns over the proposed mining. The mining would impact wetlands on or adjacent to this tract and could permanently impact the hydrology of the entire Okefenokee Swamp. WHY SMALL TOWNS MATTER Since 1995, the Georgia Conservancy has provided planning, design, and technical assistance to communities across Georgia, including many small towns and rural areas, places such as Hiram, Pine Lake, Moreland and Hogansville. We learn from local leaders, provide planning services, and help local government officials shape sustainable

ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA LAND TRUSTS The Georgia Conservancy is pleased to announce a new initiative that takes this coordinated approach: Association of Georgia Land Trusts. This new coalition brings together more than 20 organizations across the state to share news and best practices, provide technical assistance and advice to clients and partners, and advocate for the protection of valuable environmental lands. LAND & WATER CONSERVATION FUND The Land and Water Conservation Fund is the strongest conservation mechanism in the history of our nation and its authorization expired on September 30 due to Congress not taking action.
