Destinations International has made the case that relying merely on ROI numbers to defend the value and relevancy of a destination organization was no longer a viable advocacy strategy. Instead, we argued, destination organizations need to support the message of ROI in terms of dollars and cents with an emotional and value-based appeal to convince political leaders and community stakeholders PROFESSIONAL IN DESTINATION MANAGEMENT (PDM) CERTIFICATE The Professional in Destination Management (PDM) certificate program provides those new to the destination organization side of the industry (less than one year of experience) with cutting-edge education, offering entry-level personnel the critical skills and knowledge necessary to start their careers in the travel and tourismindustry.
THE NEW TOURISM LEXICON Words matter in politics, and those words need to be chosen carefully. If we are going to be successful in changing the narrative surrounding our industry, it starts with a values-based approach. That means talking to stakeholders in a manner that is simple and emotional, and connects their values to your organization. In this policy brief, we demonstrate why our industry must utilize a new DESTINATIONS INTERNATIONAL HOMEPAGE Destinations International strives to make our members and their destinations successful. APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Destinations International has partnered with SearchWide Global and the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) to foster a 600-hour apprenticeship program to provide talented apprentices with hands-on professional work experience, with the participating destination organizations and the selected destination partners. HOW TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS IN A DIGITAL WORLD Digital teamwork expert Erica Dhawan spoke at Destinations International's CEO Summit about the importance of being less "visually biased" in hybrid environments. CDC UPDATES TRAVEL ADVICE FOR MORE THAN 120 COUNTRIES The new U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advice is great news for people who want to visit Iceland, Israel and Singapore; good news if you plan on going to Japan; and not-so-great news if you had plans to travel to the U.K. BIDEN ADMINISTRATION WORKING TO REOPEN INTERNATIONAL The Biden administration is making progress toward reopening borders. According to the White House, it is creating "working groups" with Canada, the European Union, Mexico, the U.K. and others to liftrestrictions.
COVID VACCINATION TOURS? RUSSIA IS LOOKING AT TRAVEL With uptake of Russia’s coronavirus shot Sputnik V sluggish among its own citizens, Russia is considering launching Covid vaccination travel packages for tourists. Russian state news agency Tass cited one of the country’s tourism industry chiefs as saying the “vaccination tours” were ready, but that visas and entry requirements for foreign visitors were holding them up. FRANCE REOPENS FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS, BUT WITH CONDITIONS Vaccinated visitors from "orange" countries—including the U.S. and Britain—will no longer need to quarantine on arrival and will no longer have to justify the reasons for their trip to France. HAWAII OUTLINES FULL REOPENING PLANS, INCLUDING DROPPING Hawaii Gov. David Ige announced detailed plans to make inter-island and trans-Pacific travel easier—and the eventual elimination of all COVID-19-related restrictions. TRUE OMNI ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF VISITOR EXPERIENCE Erin Rheinschild has been appointed Director of Visitor Experience at True Omni.
