BROAD COALITION URGES IMMEDIATE ACTION ON BROADBAND FUNDING INCLUDE GOVERNOR NEWSOM'S PLAN IN JUNE 15 BUDGET

_CSAC, on behalf of a broad coalition of education, health, business, technology, and other organizations submitted the following letter to Legislative leaders urging immediate action to include Governor Gavin Newsom’s broadband budget package be included in the June 15

budget._

The organizations above strongly support the Governor’s proposal for a $7 billion investment to help close the Digital Divide. With these funds and the additional financing sources they would leverage, California can once again be a leader in digital access. But time is of the essence. We must begin the work this summer to connect the 2.3 million Californians with no meaningful access to the internet, while at the same time laying the groundwork for affordability and choice for the 15.4 million more who live in broadband monopolies.

THE NEED FOR COMMUNITY RESILIENCE IS STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE

_The following guest blog is provided by the Stronger California Coalition, of which CSAC is a member, authored by coalition members Mark Sektnan, Vice President of the American Property Casualty Insurance Association, and Rex Frazier, President of the Personal Insurance Federation of California._ The relentless threat of wildfire in California is not waning. Last summer, much of California lived under a cloud of smoke as some of the largest fires in history raged across the state. As we head into another dry summer and drought, it’s more important than ever that our communities are taking collective steps toward resiliency and homeowners are maintaining their insurance policies. California devotes the month of May to raising awareness about the dangers of wildfires and steps we can take to be more resilient. We encourage local leaders to recognize Wildfire Awareness Month – there is no better time to inspire homeowner, regional and community

preparedness.
