What is the Engines ITD and what are the challenges? The Engines ITD builds on the success of the Sustainable and Green Engine (SAGE) ITD of Clean Sky 1, working towards radical engine architectures and new engine technologies to power the aircraft of the future. All the activities under the Engines ITD in Clean Sky 2 have a common goal: to increase fuel and energy efficiencies of the engineCLEAN SKY 2 BUDGET
Clean Sky 2's total budget exceeds €4 billion: A maximum of €1,755,000,000 (cash) from the European Commission (from the Horizon 2020 programme budget) In-kind contributions towards the actions plus (cash) contributions towards the administrative costs of the JU totaling approximately €1,228,500,000. At least €965,250,000 fromREGIONAL AIRCRAFT
In the next 20 years regional air traffic is expected to triple at an average yearly rate of 6% (compared to a 5% rate in total commercial aviation), generating a market demand of about 9000 new regional aircraft (with a market value of about € 360 billion, averaging € 18 billion per year). The regional market is currently led by non ECO-DESIGN | CLEAN SKY The Eco-Design TA is the continuation and extension of the ECO ITD activity in Clean Sky 1 and therefore has a robust and proven basis already on which to build. The strands that this Eco-Design process follows include: The Vehicle Ecological Economic Synergy activity (VEES), which is driven by Materials, Processes, Resources (MPR)innovations
DEVELOPING ECO-FRIENDLY AIRCRAFT CARGO DOORS Redesigning cargo doors will help to make the aircraft of the future lightweight and more environmentally-friendly, contributing to the Clean Sky’s own objectives as well as the ACARE Flightpath 2050 targets, in alignment with the European Green Deal. CLEAN AVIATION FOR A COMPETITIVE GREEN RECOVERY IN EUROPE More than ever, clean and sustainable aviation, which is facing significant challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is recognised as a vital element for Europe’s success in a highly competitive world. Clean Sky is committed to supporting a sustainable economic recovery and to making climate-neutral aviation a reality, in close alignmentwith
