Casa Juan Diego was founded in 1980, following the Catholic Worker model of Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin, to serve immigrants and refugees and the poor. From one small house it has grown to ten houses. Casa Juan Diego publishes a newspaper, the Houston Catholic Worker, four times a year to share the values of the Catholic Workermovement and

Juan Diego was given the role of going to the local Bishop to tell him of the importance of the indigenous people. The Bishop eventually heard the voice of the poor and was converted. He asked Juan Diego for a sign. Our Lady gave Juan Diego the sign of roses in December, in the winter, and he gathered them in his cloak to show to. WHAT IS THE CATHOLIC WORKER MOVEMENT? The Catholic Worker movement was founded in 1933 by Peter Maurin and Dorothy Day in New York City to implement the teachings of the Gospels and Catholic social teaching, especially as presented in the social encyclicals.
