Public Works is responsible for operating the City's water and sewer utilities, maintaining safe streets, sidewalks, and transportation options, taking care of the City's eight parks and other green spaces, providing a variety of environmental services, and maintaining all public facilities, such as City Hall, the Library, and the CommunityCenter.

An “all–risk” organization, Monrovia Fire & Rescue responds to the needs of the community regardless of the nature of the incident. In 2019, Monrovia Fire & Rescue responded to 4,600 emergency calls for service, approximately 80 percent required paramedic care. The department has a budget of $11.6 million with 52 personnel and two COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION The Community Services Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to Community Services cooperating with all government agencies and civic groups in the advancement of sound Community Services planning and programming. SAMSON THE HOT TUB BEAR Samson the Hot Tub Bear was going to live! Overjoyed with the news, citizens of Monrovia, the San Gabriel Valley, and the Orange County Zoo raised $125,000 to build a special habitat for Samson. Samson lived out the remainder of his life at the zoo, eating until his heart's content and swimming in a special pool added with him in mind.
