Beating The Odds is a powerfully raw and emotional film that follows the lives of two students from different backgrounds who faced non-academic barriers that presented challenges in reaching their fullest potential. Communities In Schools of Atlanta (CIS of Atlanta) employs staff called Site Coordinators who are embedded in local schools to offer needed resources to economically CROSS KEYS SITE COORDINATORS THANK BUS DRIVERS AND WELCOME Last month, DeKalb County School District welcomed its students back to in-person learning. This transition for our students would not be possible without bus drivers, so our team wanted to show a small appreciation for them. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, our youth are reeling from school closures and uncertainty about what school will look like this fall. Students and their families are feeling the drastic toll that the pandemic is taking on health and economic stability for vulnerable populations. CIS OF ATLANTA ALUM & CURRENT ALABAMA PLAYER HELPS Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Justin Eboigbe, an alumnus of CIS of Atlanta and Forest Park High School, helped Site Coordinator, Mr. Avery, with distributing snacks to the teachers of the Clayton County school. Justin currently attends the University of Alabama where he is a defensive lineman for the football team. Thank you to all teachers for your dedication to students everywhere DEKALB COUNTY BOARD MEMBER SHOWS GRATITUDE FOR SITE Darrell is our Site Coordinator at Stone Mountain High School where he spends his time making an impact on his students and the community. When Rigo, Deputy Director of Programs, made a visit to Darrell to deliver a self-care basket as a token of appreciation for his hard work, he was met with gratitude from some of the staff. Mr. Diijon DaCosta, Board Member of DeKalb County School District CIS OF ATLANTA SITE COORDINATOR PROVIDES SUPPORT AND Our Site Coordinator, Mari, doing what she does best: encouraging and supporting her students! Mari visited her students from Miles Elementary School and delivered goodie bags thanks to the help of the school social worker, Mr. Sledge. With the theme of “stress relief” in mind, she packed each bag with a journal, coloring book, art supplies, food, and an encouraging note. MEET OUR SITE COORDINATOR Tiquila is our Multi-Agency Alliance for Children (MAAC) Coordinator. In her position, she serves the children in the foster care system in different school districts throughout metro Atlanta including Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton, Cobb, Douglas, and Henry. Her background in social work gives her the skills to advocate for children and build solutions within the child welfare system. Beating The Odds is a powerfully raw and emotional film that follows the lives of two students from different backgrounds who faced non-academic barriers that presented challenges in reaching their fullest potential. CROSS KEYS SITE COORDINATORS THANK BUS DRIVERS AND WELCOME Last month, DeKalb County School District welcomed its students back to in-person learning. This transition for our students would not be possible without bus drivers, so our team wanted to show a small appreciation for them. This prize was created to encourage students to keep working hard to finish the school year strong. B.E.S.T. Academy, Student Support Coach Katelyn Penn had the honor of delivering his prize while practicing social distancing. CIS OF ATLANTA ALUM & CURRENT ALABAMA PLAYER HELPS Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Justin Eboigbe, an alumnus of CIS of Atlanta and Forest Park High School, helped Site Coordinator, Mr. Avery, with distributing snacks to the teachers of the Clayton County school. Justin currently attends the University of Alabama where he is a defensive lineman for the football team.
