Local Farm Partners. Our partnerships with local farmers grew out of the Chester County Gleaning Program that was established in 1996 by then Commissioner (now State Senator) Andrew Dinniman. Along with Volunteer Chairperson Elmer Duckinfield, the Gleaning Program focused on gathering excess produce from local farms that may otherwise go to

Raised Bed Gardens. With roots stemming from the Gleaning Program in 1997, our Raised Bed Garden Program was adopted by the Food Bank in 2009 with six partner garden sites. The program has since grown to over 100 gardens hosted at schools, food cupboards and social service agencies. Our partners collectively grow 40,000 pounds of vegetables

Chester County Food Bank, in partnership with Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Chester County, is thrilled to offer Seed to Supper, a beginning gardening course for growing veggies at home on a budget.. Designed for adults, the free classes highlight practical, low-cost techniques for planning, planting, maintaining, and celebrating the harvest of a successful vegetable garden. WHAT IS FOOD INSECURITY? A fully stocked fridge after a trip to the grocery store; a farmer’s market bag stuffed with leafy greens and plump tomatoes; a fruit bowl, spilling over with sweet, ripening fruit: the sensation of abundance is a basic human pleasure. But for so many of our neighbors—more than 50,000 in fact, including 18,000-plus children—this is FRESH2YOU MOBILE MARKET TRUCK Food Sources. This garden features 35 beds that are tended to by individual gardeners. Your visit to this garden will highlight the many partnerships involved with this one garden and how the garden has evolved over its 11 years of growing.
