LOCAL MALADAPTATION IN A FOUNDATION TREE SPECIES Replanting native vegetation is a broadly accepted method for restoring degraded landscapes. Traditionally, seed used for restoration has been locally sourced to avoid introducing maladapted plants and to minimize the risk of outbreeding depression. However local adaptation is not universal and is disrupted by, for example, climate change and habitat fragmentation. DRIVERS OF CHANGING URBAN FLOOD RISK: A FRAMEWORK FOR ACTION. This study focuses on drivers for changing urban flood risk. We suggest a framework for guiding climate change adaptation action concerning flood risk and manageability in cities. The identified key drivers of changing flood hazard and vulnerability are used to provide an overview of each driver's impact on flood risk and manageability atthe city level.
VITAMIN K.
This chapter reviews the analytical procedures in use for the analysis of vitamin K, with an emphasis on HPLC assays. The following issues are considered: determination of phylloquinone by HPLC; analytical conditions; extraction methods for biological tissues; extraction methods for foods and beverages; internal standards; analytical variation; factors affecting phylloquinone concentrations; CAB DIRECTHOMEABOUTHELP PAGE CAB Direct platform is the most thorough and extensive source of reference in the applied life sciences, incorporating the leading bibliographic databases CAB Abstracts and Global Health COLORIMETRIC METHOD FOR DETERMINATION OF SUGARS AND52224 The method depends on the colour reaction between phenol and concentrated H2SO4and simple sugars, oligosaccharides, polysaccharides and their derivatives, including methyl esters, which contain a free or potentially free reducing group. Chemical constituents and medicinal uses of 449 medicinal plants growing and available in Bangladesh are listed. Information on their habitats, cultivation, economic importance and pharmacological actions is provided. Genera include: Abroma, Abutilon, Acanthus, Achyranthes, Adenanthera, Adiantum, FACTORY FARMING AND THE ENVIRONMENT. The article presents the scenario of rapidly increasing consumption of animal products and the intensification of animal production systems worldwide. It is argued that farming methods in the last 50 years have changed rapidly as a result of policies which have favoured food production at the expense of the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of the landscape. AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT: AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE. A proposal is made for a new model of agricultural development which will include technological and institutional change as factors endogenous to the economic system. The importance of the public sector in developing agricultural technology is also stressed. Success in agricultural growth, it is believed, is based on an ecologically adapted and economically viable agricultural technology which A BEHAVIORAL MODEL OF FAMILIES' USE OF HEALTH SERVICES.CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES In this monograph the author uses data from his study with ANDERSON to develop a three-stage model in which predisposing, enabling, and need components are used in an attempt to explain families' widely differing use of medical care services. GOAT PRODUCTION IN THE TROPICS. Goats constitute about 15% of the total world population of domestic herbivores and occur in a multiplicity of forms over a wide range of environments in the tropics where they form an important source of meat, milk, hair and leather. They have the particular merit that, unlike other domesticated animals, they can subsist on vegetation which is of no direct value for human nutrition. THE STUDY OF PLANT DISEASE EPIDEMICS. This book, which can be used either as a reference or a textbook, covers the essential principles and concepts of plant disease epidemiology, describing the temporal and spatial dynamics of plant diseases in populations, as well as the interpretation of epidemiological data. Chapter 1 provides an overview of concepts and historical developments in plant disease epidemics. HERBAL MEDICINES. A GUIDE FOR HEALTH-CARE PROFESSIONALS. LEPROSY: CURRENT STATUS AND CLINICAL MANAGEMENT. Around the world nations have adopted the global leprosy strategy 2016-2020 developed by the world health organization to achieve the objective of a leprosy-free world. Despite the disease having been declared as eliminated from most developed nations and parts of the world, every year more than 2,00,000 new cases of leprosy still continue to occur mainly in south east Asian regions (India, THE WATER-CULTURE METHOD FOR GROWING PLANTS WITHOUT SOIL. AN ECOLOGICAL STUDY OF To W. F. Wells is due the first description of a reasonably practicable instrument-the air centrifuge-for collecting small bacteria-carrying particles from the air; to him is due the demonstration that infection might be transferred by small air-borne particles-droplet nuclei-from the respiratory tract; and to him is due the first systematic study of an air disinfectant-ultra-violet LAW ENFORCEMENT MEASURES OF INDONESIAN FOREST POLICE Forest police plays a very important role in combating illegal logging in the timber producing countries. This study introduces the forest police system in Indonesia, and summarizes the effect of law enforcement activities of the forest police on combating illegal logging with the two cases of the Gunung Palung National Park and Kedah State. It points out the problems existing in the current SPATIAL HETEROGENEITY OF LAND TAXATION IN UKRAINE: THE Starting in 2016, the process of financial decentralization began in Ukraine, in which local governments of lower levels (rural, urban, city councils and united territorial communities) were entitled to independently establish on their territory the rates of many local taxes and fees credited to community budgets. In particular, tax legislation of Ukraine allows local governments to vary land STUDY ON THE EXTRACTION OF OLEORESIN FROM FRESH FRUIT OF In this study, oleoresin from fresh fruit of pepper was optimized using ultrasonic and microwave assisted solvent extraction method. Results from the response surface analysis showed that the optimal extraction conditions are as follows: microwave power was 300 watts, ultrasonic power was turned on, with the extraction temperature set at55 degrees Celsius.
YIELD AND GAS EXCHANGE OF GREENHOUSE TOMATO AT DIFFERENT Significant global warming increases over the last century have resulted in recent research focused on practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Agricultural management practices, such as nitrogen (N) fertilization and aerated irrigation (AI), have significantly increased crop yields by improving soil water and fertilizer availability, and have been widely adopted in recent years. CB1 RECEPTOR ANTAGONISTS: NEW DISCOVERIES LEADING TO NEW CB1 receptor antagonists were among the most promising drug targets in the last decade. They have been explored and found to be effective as therapeutic agents for obesity and related cardiometabolic problems; however, use of rimonabant, the first marketed CB1 receptor antagonist, has been suspended because of its anxiogenic and depressogenic side effects.
