PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE GALAPAGOS That day didn't come for almost 30 years, but when it did, I was so fascinated I kept going back. Touring the Galapagos is like spending a week on the other side of the bars in a zoo. In other words, a photographer's dream. Of course, there aren’t any lions and tigers and bears. Instead, just boobies and lizards and turtles, oh my!WHAT YOU'LL SEE
What You'll See. The Galapagos Islands are a freak of nature. They are so far off South America (500+ miles) that they are isolated ecologically (except for man's influence). Yet they reside at a confluence of warm and cold waters that makes for a rich underwater ecosystem, which in turn serves as the engine that drives the above-water ecosystem. To take a picture you must have your camera in your hands, not locked inside a case inside of a case inside of a protective wrapper. I'll compromise almost every other aspect if it means I get the shot versus I don't. Comfort is an important second goal. If you're not comfortable carrying your gear, you don't carry it. DOES IT SELL?
Nikon was under 25% in the late 1990's, bounced around reaching a high of 39% in the DSLR era, and is currently down to 15%. Nikon has several times in their history pursued a consumer camera rush only to pull back to primarily the enthusiast/pro market. It seems that they keep finding they can't sustain a true mass consumer-focused effort PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE GALAPAGOS That day didn't come for almost 30 years, but when it did, I was so fascinated I kept going back. Touring the Galapagos is like spending a week on the other side of the bars in a zoo. In other words, a photographer's dream. Of course, there aren’t any lions and tigers and bears. Instead, just boobies and lizards and turtles, oh my!SITE NAVIGATION
