OUR HISTORY

In 1975, with the help of the late Dr. Leonard Kapiloff, publisher and real estate developer, the synagogue purchased its current four acres of land in Olney, and its enthusiastic membership of 70 families transformed a construction shed that sat on the property into B'nai Shalom of Olney’s first home.Torah scrolls and an Ark were donated, and the first life cycle events were celebrated.

EAT, LEARN, & PRAY

EAT, LEARN & PRAY will add meaning to and elevate your Shabbat. Following discussion and breakfast is an abbreviated Shabbat morning service. Since there is a Kiddush provided within Eat, Learn & Pray at 9:15 a.m., there will be no Kiddush following services. RELIGIOUS SCHOOL REGISTRATION 2020-2021 Religious School Policy. Religious School registration is considered completed only upon submission of both the application and payment of registration fee in full. Registering a student in BSO Religious School is a commitment for the entire year and the tuition is to be paid in its entirety. The fee is not dependent on the student's

attendance.

BSO Women's Circle is a place where women bond, share friendships and develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Jewish woman. We sponsor programs and speakers throughout the year on a range of topics including Jewish family education and living, health and leisure, along with a variety of social events including a membership

luncheon each Fall.

JEWISH CHARITY-ALEX P. KOVALSKY SCHOLARSHIP FUND Charitable Foundations-Jewish Giving in Maryland. Jewish Charity-Alex P. Kovalsky Scholarship Fund at Bnai Shalom of Olney. Annual scholarships are awarded to individuals with special needs to participate in Jewish educational and social programs. Additionally, funds are available to groups organizing programs that directly benefit children and adults living with special needs. B'NAI SHALOM OF OLNEYABOUT USWORSHIPLEARNING/EDUCATIONGET INVOLVEDJOINEAT, LEARN, & PRAY A team of BSO congregants, Rabbi Hoffman and advisers from the health care industry met to establish protocols for reopening our doors in a safe and protective fashion. We have decided to limit Friday night and Saturday morning Shabbat services to 15 people. If you cannot or do not want to come in person, Shabbat will still be held via Zoom. OUR HISTORY

In 1975, with the help of the late Dr. Leonard Kapiloff, publisher and real estate developer, the synagogue purchased its current four acres of land in Olney, and its enthusiastic membership of 70 families transformed a construction shed that sat on the property into B'nai Shalom of Olney’s first home.Torah scrolls and an Ark were donated, and the first life cycle events were celebrated.

He grew up in Shaare Tefila Congregation, where his passion for Judaism was nurtured by many people, most notably Rabbi Martin Halpern z"l and Cantor Gershon Levin z"l. He was a participant in the International JEWISH ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS CLASSES Kiddush Konversation - featuring Congregants, Clergy and Guest Presenters. Several Shabbat afternoons a year, BSO hosts a Kiddush Konversation over lunch to extend our Shabbat experience beyond services. MAZEL TOV TO ALLY AND BARRY FOR THEIR AUFRUF It all started in 2014, Barry traveled all the way to Indiana University to give a lecture to students at the local Hillel about Israel advocacy when he worked for Hasbara Fellowships. He walks into the staff offices and is greeted by the one and only Hillel dog, Mauri. Once Barry finally comes up from greeting Mauri, he meets Ally and the rest is history. Today Ally and Barry call California home.  Barry is a Commercial Real Estate Broker with Spectrum Commerical Real Estate, Inc., and Ally is an Admissions Counselor for Alliant International University.  Even though their careers have taken them out of Jewish Communal life, Judaism and Israel are still central to who they are and all that they do. Ally and Barry are looking forward to finally tying the knot on October 3rd after having to postpone their nuptials last year due to COVID.  And most importantly Mauri is still the center of their

lives.
