NATIONAL LEAGUE VOTE: "AN HONOUR" FOR GLOUCESTER TO COMPETE WITH LIKESOF YORK CITY
By Joe Richardson
@joerichpress Sports reporter York City manager Steve Watson, whose side bested Gloucester 3-2 in their one meeting last season but trail the National League North leaders by 12 points - and five games - this season. Picture: GordonClayton
__ 6 comments __
COMPETING with the likes of York City is an “honour”, believes Gloucester City’s co-chairman Alex Petheram, who has said that he cannot support declaring the season null and void. Clubs across Steps 1 and 2 are currently deliberating their votes on a set of four potentially season-ending resolutions distributed by the National League on Monday. The Tigers - who currently top National League North - are one of a small number of the 66 teams across Steps 1 and 2 to have divulged quickly and unequivocally their thoughts on the resolutions. He wrote on Twitter: “I’m not prepared to put my name to anything that could remotely support N&V. “We at Gloucester have no money and I accept we’re a small tin-pot club, so for us to be on the same league table slide as the likes of Kiddy, Fylde, York, Boston etc is an honour for us.” Of the other sides in York’s division, third-placed AFC Fylde said on Tuesday that they want the season to carry on, while second-placed Chester believe the suspension to playing activity should be extended to allow clubs to focus on the resolutions. Bradford (Park Avenue) and Darlington - in 14th and 17th, respectively - have thrown their weight behind declaring the season null and void, revealing that they will vote ‘for’ on all possible resolutions. There are four resolutions to vote on.The first says that Step 1 and Step 2 clubs should have separate votes; the second that the Step 1 season should be declared null and void; the third that the Step 2 season should be declared null and void; and the fourth that both Steps should be declared null and void. Step 1 teams can vote only on Resolutions One, Two and Four. Step 2 teams can vote only on Resolutions One, Three and Four. Second- and third-placed in National League South respectively, Dorking Wanderers and St Albans City have both indicated their desire to continue, while 17th-placed Bath City say that is not financiallyviable for them.
