LITERARY AGENTS
You’ve finished your manuscript, re-written and edited as much as you can and you think your book is ready to be published. However, most publishers of commercial fiction and/or non-fiction now only consider manuscripts sent to them by literary agents. In this section of the site you’ll find a host of articles on the role of the literary agent and how to approach them with your book. 10 STEPS TO GETTING A LITERARY AGENT This time, it's 10 Steps to getting a literary agent, though I have to warn you, the most important steps are the novel-writing ones. 1. Finish the book. You will annoy everybody you query if your novel isn’t finished. You want to be in the position where you can press ‘send’ as soon as an agent requests the full. W&A WORKING-CLASS WRITERS' PRIZE The winner of our Working-Class Writers' Prize 2021 will receive: - A mentoring session with judge and author Paul Mendez. - A cash prize of £200. - Access to a number of W&A writing and publishing events. - One year’s membership to The Society of Authors. - A full stack of all the Dialogue Books hardbacks from the past 12 months. PUBLISHING AGREEMENTS An agent will ensure that the contract gives you the best possible chance of maximising your income from a book. Alternatively, the Society of Authors (see The Society of Authors) and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (see The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain) will both check publishing agreements for their members. HOW TO WRITE HORROR FICTION *EXTRA DATE ADDED* What are you afraid of?Join acclaimed author Kirsty Logan for this evening workshop on the fundamental elements of writing horror fiction. Through a combination of practical advice, discussion, and writing exercises, Kirsty will take you through the steps of howto write horror.
