How we help. We are the British Jewish community’s humanitarian agency. We support the world’s poorest Jewish communities and we respond to global disasters. Working with trusted local organisations, we focus on practical and life changing solutions. THE BOYS - CHILD HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS The Boys. World Jewish Relief, under our former name The Central British Fund for German Jewry (The CBF), rescued and rehabilitated over 700 child Holocaust survivors after the liberation of the concentration camps. The Jewish children, known as 'The Boys', although nearly 200 were girls, were initially brought to Windermerein the Lake

Uyghur Appeal. World Jewish Relief, supported by the leading UK Jewish communal agencies, has launched an urgent appeal for the Uyghur Refugees in response to humanitarian needs in Turkey. We are delighted that our UK Programme Director, Janice Lopatkin has received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her work with refugees. Janice established World Jewish Relief’s Specialist Training and Employment Programme (STEP) in 2016 to assist Syrian WALTER AND HERTA KINDERTRANSPORT Walter and Herta’s incredible love story begins with them travelling on the Kindertransport from Vienna one month apart, not meeting until several years later in London. Walter Kammerling was 15 when he arrived from Vienna, Austria in December 1938. Herta Plaschkes was 12 when she arrived from Vienna, Austria on 12 January 1939. MEET THE TEAM
Paul Anticoni. Chief Executive. Paul Anticoni trained as an agriculturalist and forester prior to living and working in the 80s and 90s in Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Cambodia and Bosnia. Paul then led the Red Cross in their disaster response operations for 12 years before joining World Jewish Relief as CEO in PESACH APPEAL I OLDER PEOPLE IN CRISIS Right now, thousands of older Jewish people across Eastern Europe like Anna are desperate for hot food, emergency homecare and a connection to the outside world. SUPPORTING OLDER PEOPLE By staying active and engaged, older people have a better chance of living independently for longer. We fund exercise classes and other activities to bring the community together, often with a Jewish focus. For more isolated people, who can suffer from loneliness, we arrange local ‘Warm Home’ gatherings to encourage socialisation. RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES Every year, emergencies, like floods, famines, earthquakes and wars, put millions of lives in danger. With Britain’s Jewish community behind us, we respond to these disasters by providing emergency aid as well as supporting longer term recovery efforts. PESACH APPEAL I OLDER PEOPLE IN CRISIS Right now, thousands of older Jewish people across Eastern Europe like Anna are desperate for hot food, emergency homecare and a connection to the outside world. Her life has been shattered by Covid-19, and she has no idea when she’ll be vaccinated. With no hope and no help, every day is a fight for survival. Older people are now going SUPPORTING OLDER PEOPLE By staying active and engaged, older people have a better chance of living independently for longer. We fund exercise classes and other activities to bring the community together, often with a Jewish focus. For more isolated people, who can suffer from loneliness, we arrange local ‘Warm Home’ gatherings to encourage socialisation. RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES Every year, emergencies, like floods, famines, earthquakes and wars, put millions of lives in danger. With Britain’s Jewish community behind us, we respond to these disasters by providing emergency aid as well as supporting longer term recovery efforts. Since 2017 it is reported that the Chinese government has rounded up over one million Muslims (Uyghurs, ethic Kazakhs and Uzbeks) and detained them in ‘re WALTER AND HERTA KINDERTRANSPORT Walter and Herta’s incredible love story begins with them travelling on the Kindertransport from Vienna one month apart, not meeting until several years later in London.
