Definition: Probiotics are live microbes that can be formulated into many different types of products, including foods, drugs, and dietary supplements. Species of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are most commonly used as probiotics, but the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and some E. coli and Bacillus species are also used as probiotics. COMMITTEES & INTEREST GROUPS Committees & Interest Groups. The World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) currently has, in addition to the Governing Council, 13 groups that, under the authority of the Governing Council, coordinate WGO initiatives and projects, and generally undertake the work of the organization.There are currently ten committees, an editorial board, and two interest groups. DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IBS PATIENTS The foods poor in FODMAPS are: vegetables and legumes: broccoli, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes; fruits: green bananas, berries, grapes, lemon, papaya; cereals: corn. We should recommend these foods to patients with IBS. With respect to the role of FODMAPs in the managing of IBS symptoms, there is a growingbody of

The genus Strongyloides is classified in the order Rhabditida, and most members are soil-dwelling microbiverous nematodes.Fifty-two species of Strongyloides exist, but most do not infect humans. THE GROWING GLOBAL BURDEN OF GALLSTONE DISEASE Health-related and socioeconomic burden of gallstone disease (GD) Mortality rates for GD decreased between 1979 and 2004 in the United States by 56% for gallstones as the underlying cause and by 71% for GD as the underlying or other cause (Figure 2). A prebiotic is a substance, typically a carbohydrate, that is digested by our gut bacteria that promotes the growth of “good” bacteria and, thus, our health. Many fibers are prebiotics; food with prebiotic effects include onions, garlic, bananas and chicory.
