VOLUNTEERS FOR PEACE ABOUT VFP Founded in 1982, VFP is a non-profit organization offering over 3000 voluntary service opportunities around the world. Volunteers For Peace (VFP) organizes, promotes and supports voluntary service opportunities in the USA and abroad as an effective means of intercultural education, service learning, and community development. You will be greeted by your project leaders who will accompany you during the entire experience. All the volunteers and project leaders live together, work together, cook together, and explore together. Length: 2-3 weeks. Preparing for Your Adventure. After you have been accepted onto your volunteer project, it is time to start preparing for your trip. You will need to book your flights, consider travel insurance, and get the needed vaccinations. VOLUNTEERING AS A RECENT GRADUATE Volunteering abroad is a great way to prepare you for the challenges and experiences that come with ‘adult life’. Many volunteers say the most valuable skills they learn while abroad include: working cohesively in groups, leadership, cultural understanding and gaining a greater sense of responsibility and maturity, to name a few. Other camps have taken him to Kenya and the West Bank. Over the years he has led several camps in New Hampshire and Vermont. My 16 days in France were, I can honestly say, some of the most rewarding and eye-opening 16 days of my life. We slept in tents, the 8 boys in one tent and the 7 girls in the other, and over the course of those 16 days, the teenagers I was with became like family to me.
