To make Jan van Eyck’s revolution tangible, the MSK brought his art together with studio work, copies of disappeared works, and more than 100 paintings, miniatures, sculptures and drawings by his greatest followers and contemporaries. To show them at their best, the museum spread them over no fewer than 13halls.

But Van Eyck can flawlessly imitate gold, and by extension he brings every material and every texture to life in his paintings. Practical information The exhibition will be open 7 days a week, from 9.30 am until 7 pm. Every Monday, and intermittently on Friday and Saturday, the exhibition is open until 11 pm. Bijna 130.000 bezoekers kwamen tijdens deze weken dichterbij Van Eyck dan ooit mogelijk was, maar door de coronacrisis waren we helaas genoodzaakt om de tentoonstelling vroegtijdig te sluiten. Wereldwijd zijn er van Jan van Eyck slechts een twintigtal werken bewaard. Zeker de helft daarvan reisde naar ons museum. Hier werden ze samengebracht met werk uit Van Eycks atelier en kopieën van intussen verdwenen schilderijen. Maar ook met meer dan 100 topstukken uit de late middeleeuwen. Daarvoor werden maar liefst 13 museumzalenheringericht.

Het Museum voor Schone Kunsten (MSK) in Gent is een museum voor jong en oud. Het is een levendige ontmoetingsplaats waar je kunst van de Middeleeuwen tot vandaag ontdekt in een unieke omgeving.
