CHEVALIER DE SAINT-GEORGES' VIOLIN CONCERTO NO. 2 WITH DVORÁK &CAROLINE SHAW

Chevalier de Saint-Georges, one of Marie Antoinette’s music teachers and the first Black colonel in the French Army, was also a virtuoso violinist who John Adams called “the most accomplished man in Europe.” The concert begins with Antonín Dvorák’s Serenade for Wind Instruments, which evokes the old-world atmosphere of music performed in castles of the Rococo period, and _Entr'acte_ by Caroline Shaw, the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Shaw was inspired by the way Haydn’s Op. 77 minuets “suddenly take you to the other side of Alice’s looking glass, in a kind of absurd, subtle, technicolor transition.” ARTISTS: Conner Gray Covington, _conductor_ | Kathryn Eberle, _violin_| Utah Symphony
