A Pandemic of Grief. Due to the worldwide coronavirus emergency, millions of people are losing people and things that they deeply love, need, and/or desire. Due to these losses, grief is something that many of us are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic (if we were not already facing it prior). Affirmations are statements that we can use as a form of positive self-talk in order to get into the habit of substituting negative thoughts about ourselves for BENEFITS OF DEEP BREATHING 1) Decreases stress, increases calm. When you become stressed or anxious, your brain releases cortisol, the “stress hormone.”. By taking deep breaths, your heart rate slows, more oxygen enters our blood stream and ultimately communicates with the brain to relax. Deep breathing also ups your endorphins, the “feel good” chemical. 2 THE STORY OF TWO WOLVES The Story of Two Wolves. While in yoga class the other day, my teacher shared this Native American parable: An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
