THE BASIS OF MISSIONS IN ACTS LUKE 24:36-53: JESUS PREPARES HIS WITNESSES Getting started. In this passage, Jesus isn't preparing baby-sitters, he's preparing witnesses. This is his last recorded interaction with his followers in Luke's gospel. As someone reads Luke 24:36-53, watch and listen for how he prepares them. Imagine you are the baby-sitters for three small children whose parents are going away for the weekend. REV. SUNDER KRISHNAN Rev. Sunder Krishnan. He is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology and received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked with Atomic Energy of Canada. He became a pastor in 1980, retiring in 2016. LUKE 7:36-50: THE FORGIVEN WOMAN: A LOVING WITNESS Getting started. J esus was performing great miracles among the people and teaching with great authority. One day, he accepts a dinner invitation into an astute citizen's household, and surprising things happen! Tell about a time in your life when you were incredibly thankful and relieved. 1. Have someone read Luke 7:36-50. WHY SHOULD CHRISTIANS CARE ABOUT THE POOR? We care about the poor because God commands it and has promised judgment for those who disregard the cry of the poor. We care about the poor because Jesus cares about the poor and because we were commissioned by him to preach, heal and deliver those in distress. Those who would seek to draw near to Christ, will find themselves nearto the poor.

MY JOURNEY IN TECHNOLOGY AND MISSIONS I was regularly challenged to consider what role I might play in God’s global plan. However, the roles that I heard about seemed limited to those of a pastor, or a missionary, or something in alleviating poverty. Those are all clearly important roles, but for some reason those roles just never appealed to me and IJEREMY SHOWALTER

With full confidence in the abundant faithfulness of God to accomplish all he has promised, we have chosen to delay our gathering as the Urbana community until December 28–31, 2022. We anticipate that when we finally gather, we will share stories of God’s generosity and grace in the midst of our grief. We will authentically express our joy and sorrow in corporate worship. We will experience the Spirit of God working in us, among us, and through us as we grow in our love of God, God’s Word, God’s people of every ethnicity and culture, and God’s purposes in the world. The Scripture that will serve as our frame for Urbana 22 comes from the early chapters of Acts. It is interesting that the Acts narrative begins with a season of grief and disruption as well as an invitation to wait. It is our prayer that—just as it was true for the first disciples of Jesus who waited then—we will experience a season of breakthrough in word, deed, and power as we gather after this pause.570 days
