PROPERTY TAX
New Penalties. Tsleil-Waututh Nation legislation mandates that a 10% penalty is applied to unpaid property taxes in the current year. In 2021, a short-term financial relief is provided: • A reduced penalty rate of 5% is applied after July 2, 2021. • An additional 5% penalty is applied to any current taxes outstanding after September 1, 2021. COMMUNITY & LAND USE PLANNING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Our TWN Economic Development team manages economic development activities for the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to: Develop new and existing business opportunities and partnerships that provide economic growth for the community. Ensure all business activities are consistent with the overall goals set for the community by our Chief and Council.INLAILAWATASH
We manage commercial forestry and commercial fishery resources for Tsleil-Waututh Nation and can provide a range professional forestry, fishery and clean energy management services for external clients. Inlailawatash won a 2015 BC Aboriginal Business Award for Outstanding Achievement as a community-owned business.TAKAYA DEVELOPMENTS
Takaya Developments is our successful real estate development company, majority owned by TWN, now in partnership with Aquilini Development Group.. We have been developing high-end condominiums and townhomes for almost 25 years. Takaya Developments provides the land; Aquilini Group provides the funding and builds the housing. L easeholders pay property and improvement taxes to TWN. TSLEIL-WAUTUTH NATION Please note the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Administration Office, Community Development Office, and Community Centre are closed. Most staff are working from home and in person visits are available by appointment only. ELECTED CHIEF & COUNCIL Leah George-Wilson was the first woman to be elected Chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation in 2001. She served 2001-2003, and 2005-2009. Her ancestral name is Sisi-ya-ama, which was given to her by her late Grandmother. Leah holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology fromSimon Fraser.
