Following that, the workers have to stay a further seven days at a “designated facility”, during which they will be further tested. ANOTHER WORKER WITH EXPLOITATIVE SALARY STRUCTURE IN IPA This is 1.5 times his basic rate of pay which is only $1.50 per hour, as calculated from his basic monthly salary of only $286 — marked as “1” in his IPA that is imaged in the header. “IPA” is explained in detail in Glossary. It is estimated the cost for these periods will be $2,000 – $3,000 per worker. TWO MEN, THREE ACCIDENTS, NINETEEN MONTHS The governing legislation is the Work Injury Compensation Act. For an injury to be within scope of this law, it has to be an injury caused “by an accident arising out of and in the course of the employee’semployment”.

EMPLOYERS CLAW BACK COST OF STAY-HOME PERIOD FROM ARRIVING A Ministry of Manpower (MOM) directive dated 5 January 2021 required newly arriving work permit holders to serve out a 14-day stay-home period during which they would also be tested.TWC2 understands stay-home periods are to be spent in a hotel. Following that, the workers have to stay a further seven days at a “designated facility”, during which they will be further tested. HOW LOW CAN A SALARY GO? Because the basic salary is listed as $270, the company divides by 30 (days in a month) to compute the salary at $9/day. Dividing that by 8 (basic work hours per day) works out at and hourly rate of $1.125, and multiplying that by 1.5 for overtime, the company pays $1.68 per hour as OT work.
