In the 1600 and 1700's the Cayman Islands became a provisioning stop for vessels sailing the Caribbean because of an abundance of green sea turtles, which could be caught and kept alive on board as a source offresh meat.
SUMMER CAMP AT CAYMAN TURTLE CENTRE One of the biggest highlights of our Camp Shellby summer camp this year was on Friday afternoons when the kids, who had spent all week on a wonderful adventure of wildlife and nature discovery, got to help release some of our Green sea turtles into the wild. Cayman Turtle Centre has been releasing turtles for years, and so far have releasedmore than 32,000.
CAYMAN ANNUAL TURTLE RELEASE PROGRAM A tag-recapture program which allows for the collection of data regarding survival and growth of the turtles released by the Cayman Turtle Centre. As well as the "living tag" on their fore-flipper which identifies an individual animal. Using turtle nets, the turtles are recaptured, weighed, measured, and released immediately. CAYMAN TURTLE CENTRE ANNOUNCES REOPENING Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre Ltd. is delighted to announce it will be open to the public once again, from Saturday 4th July, after closing its doors to the public in March as a necessary precaution against the spread COVID-19. 2021 SUMMER RESIDENTS SPECIAL *$99 for 2 adults and 2 children under 12. The special offer starts Saturday 6th June 2021 and is available till Monday 31st August 2021. Upon purchase, the pass is valid for 3 months e.g. if you purchase the pass on 1st August 2021 you can use the pass till 1st November 2021. As well as the "living tag" on their fore-flipper which identifies an individual animal. Using turtle nets, the turtles are recaptured, weighed, measured, and released immediately. CTC WELCOMES NEW CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER CTC is pleased to welcome Peggy Hamilton who is the new Chief Operations Officer. Ms Hamilton has been with the Centre since January. “I am enjoying it, and learning a lot. It is a very busy place,” she said.
