After an unprecedented summer in 2020, the Troy Tiger Sharks swim team is back in the water at the Troy Recreation Center. REMEMBER AMERICA’S HEROES ON MEMORIAL DAY Bob McLendon, owner of the Conecuh River Depot Military Museum, has been collecting American military memorabilia for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and also in the Army Reserves. He has been a historical re-enactor for about 30 years. On Memorial Day 2021, services will be held all across the country honoring and mourning HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES UNDER FEDERAL COVID MANDATE Even through federal and state mask orders are no longer in place, the nation’s hospitals and nursing homes remain under federal mask requirements — even for people who are fully vaccinated. Troy Regional Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Rick Smith said the COVID-19 outbreak is easing up and the hospital has expanded visitinghours from
POST 70 GEARING UP FOR ANOTHER SUMMER OF BASEBALL American Legion Post 70 is back on the diamond for the 2021 summer season. Just days removed from the ending of many of the players’ high school seasons, Post 70 will see its first action of the summer this weekend when they head to Chipley, Florida, to participate in TROJAN MARKETPLACE OPENING SOON Trojan Marketplace opening soon. It won’t be long until the doors at Trojan Marketplace open to the public. Frontage is already up for some of the retailers that will locate in the new plaza. TWO MEN CHARGED WITH MURDER A pair of Troy men have been charged with murder in connection with a June 6 fatal shooting outside a club. Justus Davis, 20, and Jermaine Thomas, 36, were both charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder on Wednesday. They were being held on $300,000 bond each in the Pike County Jail. TROY SCHOOL BOARD SEPARATES WITH SUPERINTENDENT HICKS Dr. Lee Hicks is no longer the superintendent at Troy City Schools. The Troy Board of Education held a special called meeting on Tuesday to approve a mutual separation agreement with Hicks. Rosie Staggs has been named the Youth of the Month for June 2021 by the Boys and Girls Club of Pike and Surrounding Counties. COUNTY BREAKS GROUND ON JUDICIAL COMPLEX The Pike County Commission broke ground Tuesday on a judicial complex that has been years in development. The complex will not only replace the county’s obsolete jail, it will also include a building for the county’s court system, an administration building for the Pike County Sheriff’s Office as well as a 175-bed correctional facility.
