August 18, 2020 at 08:18. As always, Levi explains in great detail all the variables and ever changing weather patterns. His vast knowledge is so greatly appreciated when it comes to tropical systems. It’s never about hype but only about preparedness.TROPICAL TIDBITS
This track is similar to Hurricane Odile, which made landfall on September 14, 2014, near Cabo San Lucas with 205 kilometer-per-hour winds and dropped up to 220 millimeters of rain. The cyclone caused widespread damage to the resort destination.TROPICAL TIDBITS
Scary track for the many boats in the Rio Dulce. I have been under the impression that the reason the Rio has supposedly not been hit in living memory when listening to the ‘locals’ has more to do with chance, or poor memories than with some inherent protection of this favourite hurricane ‘hole’.TROPICAL TIDBITS
August 20, 2020 at 14:45. Levi, every hurricane season I steer people to your blog and website. You have a great way of explaining the influences on tropical systems in a way that most lay people can understand. You don’t hawk all the gazillion models that many peopledo not understand.

Thank you for the response, Levi. The completion of the ERC as the storm approaches warmer water and the Gulf Stream concerns me. I recall prior storms rapidly, and unexpectedly, intensifying as they cross the Gulf Stream, but I don’t know whether ERC was a factor atthe time.

As a result, all calculations in producing the data below involving wind speed (e.g. ACE) for basins using the 10-minute average utilize the generally accepted conversion factor of 0.88 to convert from 10-minute to 1-minute average wind speed.
