THE TREE COUNCIL
The Tree Council brings everyone together with a shared mission to care for trees and our planet’s future. We inspire and empower organisations, government, communities and individuals with the knowledge and tools to create positive, lasting change at a nationaland local level.
WHO WE ARE - THE TREE COUNCIL - CHARITY AND UMBRELLA The Tree Council was founded in 1973 as the umbrella charity for UK organisations involved in tree planting, care and conservation. The aim was to keep up the momentum of National Tree Planting Year 1973 (with its slogan of “Plant a Tree in ‘73”). Today, our members range from professional non-governmental specialist and trade CLOSE THE GAP HEDGEROWS PROJECT Close the Gap is a new programme focused on achieving bigger, healthier, better-connected hedgerows through planting and ‘gapping up’, gathering and sharing knowledge to improve hedgerow management, improving supplies of future hedgerow trees through local seed nurseries and by engaging the public with our important hedgerowheritage.
BECOME A TREE WARDEN Tree Wardens are organised into local groups. Each group is managed by a co-ordinator and is autonomous, meeting regularly to decide what they would like to focus on. Some of the projects Tree Warden groups have done include: Arranging local tree planting days. Pruning, watering and giving vital aftercare to local trees after planting.TREE STRATEGIES
A Tree Strategy is a plan for managing trees in a specific area. A strategy allows a local authority or other organisation to manage the trees it looks after well. It takes the benefits and risks of trees into account, setting long-term goals to drive up tree numbers and canopy cover, diversify the tree stock, and protect existing trees for ORCHARDS FOR SCHOOLS FREE ORCHARD AND HEDGEROW PACKS The Tree Council is giving away free orchard and hedgerow packs to inspire teachers and students around the country to get outdoors, plant and care for trees. There’s also an engaging set of resources, designed by experts and teachers, all linked to the national curriculum. Register your interest now for the Winter 2021/Spring 2022season and
