BUSINESS PLAN 2021/22 A plan for the North. We’ve launched a bold plan for the North to renew and recover in the year ahead. Our Business Plan for 2021/22 sets out how, in providing one voice for the North, TfN will make transport in the North sustainable and inclusive, and grow theregion’s economy.
INTEGRATED AND SMART TRAVEL A vision for smart travel in the North. Integrated and Smart Travel provides an opportunity to make public transport – and other forms of shared and active mobility – simpler, easier, and more convenient for the passenger. It has a big role to play in improving regional connectivity, encouraging more people to choose sustainable travel options, and ultimately in making travel a better INTEGRATED RAIL PLAN An integrated rail plan is long overdue. The North’s network has suffered due to fragmented planning and delivery of enhancements, and it is essential that planned significant investments such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail are planned as integral components of the rail network. With these multi-billion pound infrastructure projects planned for the NORTHERN POWERHOUSE RAIL Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) is a major strategic rail programme, specifically designed to support the transformation of the North’s economy by providing effective and efficient rail connectivity between the North’s major economic centres, offering a faster and more reliable service across the entire region. DRAFT DECARBONISATION STRATEGY FOR CONSULTATION Draft Decarbonisation Strategy brings together the region’s leaders to speak with one voice on the actions needed to tackle climate change. It is the culmination of efforts from TfN and our partners across the North to create the tools, capability and evidence that will help shape our pathway to near net zero emissions by 2045.STRATEGIC RAIL

The Investment Programme aims to provide greater certainty for Local Transport and Highway Authorities to deliver complementary investment. It aims to give businesses in the supply chain, including SMEs, the confidence to invest and grow, plan interventions, build up their skills base, and collaborate acrossindustries.
FUTURE TRAVEL SCENARIOS Transport for the North are using a scenarios approach to understand and respond to the future uncertainty of how people will interact with the transport system in years ahead. This will inform the future of transport debate, and help us design transport strategies which are adaptive and resilient to a range of different plausible futures. Currently, 50% of long haul passengers flying from the North have to take connecting flights. ✈️ With the right investment, by 2050 we predict 90% of long haul passengers will be able to fly directly from the North.
