SANTIAGO VESCOVI GETS SURPRISED BY HIS FAMILY BEFORE THE On Feb. 29, Tennessee basketball player Santiago Vescovi went through his normal pregame routines in Thompson-Boling Arena when his family, all of whom had traveled from Uruguay, surprised him on the court. Santiago Vescovi is a freshman who previously attended The NBA Global Academy, a training camp in Canberra, Australia. TEEN BOARD OF KNOXVILLE GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY Leadership is the main theme and goal of the Teen Board, and it allows students to grow in their desire to help the community around them. “I would advise people to get involved. It is so much fun when you participate in all of the activities,” Patty said. Meetings are the first Sunday of every month at the Teen Center on Kingston Pike. Politicians including Gov. Bill Lee and Sen. Marsha Blackburn are fueling the sentiment also in criticizing the role of Confucius Institutes in the state. KNOXVILLE ARCHITECT USES SECOND LIFE FOR ART EXHIBIT, PROJECTS Retired architect David Denton has found a novel use for the game Second Life: building and showcasing models of his architectural projects. The idea came to him 18 years ago after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, a nervous system disorder that affects motor function. Break out the ear plugs because East Tennessee is in for a treat this summer– Brood X. Brood X is what scientists call the massive cicada event the Southeast will see this May when the insects make their way above ground to transition into adulthood and reproduce. APPEALS COURT HEARS TN ABORTION BAN ARGUMENTS Gov. Bill Lee (via tn.gov) The arguments, given via livestream, are part of an ongoing legal battle centered around a 2020 bill signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee, which banned abortion at six weeks of gestation, as well as for reasons of birth defects, race, or gender. The bill was swiftly blocked by a lower federal appeals court.
