I realised it has been a while since I’ve posted anything, so I thought I’d show you something special. Here is the story of my KiteFlight Quilt.
20 HANDMADE GIFT IDEAS FOR BOYS Last week was Baby Boy Weeknow onto bigger kids. I have a great selection of ideas here, some big, some small and from a range of different crafts so I think I’ve got everyone covered! 20 HANDMADE GIFT IDEAS FOR BABY BOYS Needle Felted Rattle Ball I recently had a go at felting to make a nose for a softie fox and it was a lot of fun. The colour variations with this idea are endless! Paper Plane Mobile MY VINTAGE SINGER 20 Ever since I bought my first vintage Singer machine (the Singer 201K) I have been checking eBay most days to see what other machines are around. You could say I have Singer fever. ZAABERRY MESSENGER BAG Roman is at the age where he loves to stuff things into pockets and bags to carry around. This tutorial for a Kids Messenger Bag from Zaaberry was perfect to make him a bag of his own.. The style of bag is great for boys (and girls) and the tutorial was nice and easy tofollow.
SUGAR-FREE CARROT AND DATE CAKE I’m in two minds about using sugar in a cake made specifically for a baby. On the one hand, it’s their birthday, and the only time they have cake, so a little bit of sugar isn’t going to do any harm. MY 10 FAVOURITE SHORTS PATTERNS FOR BOYS It’s my turn for Shorts on the Line today, and it’s far too cold to wear shorts here at the moment, so I thought I’d do something a bit different and do a round up of my favourite shorts patterns for boys. Some are free, some are paid, but I think you’ll agree they’re all super cute! As always, they can easily be used for girls too, just change the fabric to suit. MY VINTAGE SINGER 201 I have inherited a speed queen ..i dont know its singer or not..was purchased in england in 1950i am not using it much though my Mom in law used it quite frequently till she survivedit is with all kind of attachmentsi will try taking pictures n send it but i dont know why the stitches are not gud..like it misses a few stitchesi tried repairing it but i m not able to use it WALNUT CRUMBLE COFFEE SLICE Yummy. I didn’t have sour cream so I used ricotta cheese (and doubled the cooking time and covered top with foil so the nuts didn’t burn). I didn’t have enough walnuts, so I made up the difference with hazelnuts. INTRODUCING, THE MEGA BIB! Roman has a heap of bibs, but most of them are so small, they only cover his chest, even though most of his food ends up in his lap. I have seen the idea of these snap up bibs before, and even have one from Loopy Loos, but decided to come up with my own design.Introducing, the mega bib!KITE FLIGHT QUILT

A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO KNITTING: EQUIPMENT I’ve been sewing for as long as I can remember, but knitting is more of a newly acquired skill. About 5 years ago, I just decided one day that I would learn how to knit. CUTLERY STORAGE ROLL I used rubber stamps and some Versacraft ink which can be set permanently onto fabric. You could also embroider the tape or use a laundry marker, or the printable transfer paper. 20 HANDMADE GIFT IDEAS FOR BOYS Last week was Baby Boy Weeknow onto bigger kids. I have a great selection of ideas here, some big, some small and from a range of different crafts so I think I’ve got everyone covered!SELF BOUND SEAM
The pressing of this seam can be fiddly, but it provides a neat finish on light to medium fabrics and lays nice and flat. As the name implies, the seam is bound by one side of the seam allowance which is folded and stitched over the other trimmed down seam allowance.TAG CUBE SOFT TOY
Beautiful toy fun for any wee one! Also a very well written and informative tutorial! My only concern would be safety with the loops. Our pediatrician has warned us against older toys with loops and loop tags with concern for possible risk of injury to infants. SUGAR-FREE CARROT AND DATE CAKE I’m in two minds about using sugar in a cake made specifically for a baby. UNPICK A SERGED SEAM THE EASY WAY I don’t unpick – I gather!! At the beginning (or end) of the seam find the needle thread which runs through the middle of your serging. Lift it out and simply pull as you would for gathering, easing the work along the thread and pulling it right out. 10 REFASHION PROJECTS USING WOOL BLANKETS This post was originally blogged on House of Estrela as part of Refashion Month. With all the Fashion Revolution stuff going on, I thought it was perfect timing to bring it back home. Don’t forget to join us on April 24th and take the Fashion Revolution pledge.. I get great satisfaction out of being able to give an old item a whole newlife.
MAKING A KIDS BATH ROBE FROM 2 TOWELS Last week, we took Roman swimming for the first time. Once he figured out he could splash, he loved it! So we took him again. After several failed attempts to try and book a baby swim class, I’ve decided I’m going to teach him to swim myself. ABOUT - THINGS FOR BOYSSHOPMY HANDMADE WARDROBEMEDIABLOGCONTACT Hi, I’m Abby! Turn the bib the right way out. Press flat. Top stitch all the way around 5mm in from the edge. The top stitching will close up the opening.SELF BOUND SEAM

Trim the top seam allowance to 3mm (1/8″). 20 HANDMADE GIFT IDEAS FOR BABY BOYS The colour variations with this idea are endless! Paper Plane Mobile. I love this simple mobile. The paper planes are a cheeky and fun idea that’s a bit out of the ordinary. Bunny Softie. I have a bit of a thing for rabbits, so love this cute little fella! Softies are awonderful gift.

Some are free, some are paid, but I think you’ll agree they’re all super cute! As always, they can easily be used for girls too, just change the fabric to suit.KITE FLIGHT QUILT
The Kite Flight Quilt is a pattern from Better Off Thread. I found the pattern here on the Robert Kaufman site. I happened across this picture on Pinterest ( in this colourway) one day and it was love at first sight. I’ve done a couple of quilts with a white background so I thought I’d go for something different and chose a light grey shot INTRODUCING, THE MEGA BIB! I use the edge of the machine foot as my guide. Leave a hole about 6cm long for turning your work. Clip curves with notches cut from the outer curves, and snips on the inner curves. Turn the bib the right way out. Press flat. Top stitch all the way around 5mm in from the edge. The top stitching will close up the opening. MY VINTAGE SINGER 201 My new-to-me machine is a Singer 201, or more specifically the 201K. The K means it was made it Scotland. You can read a bit about their history here. It was allotted on October 14 1947 in a batch of 25,000 machines and built soon after. At the time, they cost up to 6 monthswages!!
CUTLERY STORAGE ROLL Finish the ends on the twill tape, by folding over twice and sewing or with some fray check. Place a mark halfway down the edge on the pocket part of the tea towel, not the top flap. Fold the tape in half and sew onto the teatowel
TAG CUBE SOFT TOY
Use 1cm seams for the rest of the cube. Now, sew the sides of the cube together, right sides of the fabric together, taking care of the ribbon. Sew the bottom square onto the cube. Sew the top onto the cube leaving an opening about 3cm wide to turn the POLAR FLEECE BABY BOOTIES I came across this pattern for some sewn polar fleece baby booties, so I thought I’d give them a go. They only took about 20 mins to whip up and are pretty cute. Roman still kicks them off with a little effort, but they put in a good fight to stay on. I made the small size and they still have a bit of growing room left in them and Roman is ABOUT - THINGS FOR BOYS Hi, I’m Abby!
