ALBATROS DVA WALKAROUND Detailed photos of every part of the finished Vintage Aviator AlbatrosDVa reproduction
BENTLEY BR2 ENGINE HISTORY The Sopwith Snipe was eventually declared obsolete by the RAF in 1928. The Bentley BR2 was the last roatary engine operated by the RAF. All the while WO was carrying out his design work on the BR2 at Coventry he also kept abreast of the performance of his engines by visiting the squadrons, discussing the problems and carrying out modifications. Test Fitting Engine OBERURSEL 110HP UR.II ENGINE BUILD Our second engine to run successfully is the German Oberursel UR.2 rotary engine. The original is very rare, and yet it powered the Fokker Triplane - surely the most popular WW1 aircraft in the vintage aircraft building community. We were lucky to have access to an original engine, to examine and reproduce.SE5A WALKAROUND

Here is a full pilots report describing the experience of taking the new FE.2b into the air! Enjoy the smell of burnt castor oil and another piece of history brought to life by The Vintage Aviator Ltd.FLYING THE SE.5A
While the highly maneuverable designs were better suited to skilled pilots with many hours of flight time, the SE.5a design was entirely different. Easy to fly, stable and forgiving, even a mediocre pilot could capitalize on the steadiness of the aircraft, firing at the enemy from further away with a RAF SE5A | THE VINTAGE AVIATOR RAF Se5a. One of the first projects the Vintage Aviator constructed was the Se5a, and now we are offering you the chance to own your own flying example. W ith extensive research and skilled craftsmanship we have built an accurate RAF Se5a reproduction. Every bit of detail you would have found in an original, you’ll find in this example. CREATING A NEW ALBATROS "T ackling the job of building a new Albatros to the exact original specifications was never going to be an easy task.". Getting the Right Information. V arious reproductions have been completed by such experienced WW-I aircraft builders as Cole Palen, Jim Appleby and Walt Redfern (with Ron Sleep). Limited data has been available for some time, but not all of it has been reliable, so much ofRAF.1A HISTORY
RAF.1a History. "The R.A.F. 1a engine is of the stationary air cooled V-type engine of eight cylinders. This engine is an improved version of the French Renault." The improvements consisted of mounting the crankshaft and camshaft on ball and roller bearings and casting the cylinders in one piece, rather than joining cylinder head to barrel as CLERGET 9B ENGINE HISTORY The Clerget 9B engine was designed by Pierre Clerget. Manufactured in both France by Clerget-Blin and Great Britain by Gwynnes Limited they were used on such aircraft as the Sopwith Camel and Vickers Gunbus. What distinguished the Clerget rotary engine from its rivals (Gnome and Le Rhône) was that the Clerget had normal intake and exhaust Skip to main content☰ Menu
