The Metro Area LOSS Team is based on a nationally-recognized postvention effort to bring immediate support to survivors of suicide. During a video call, people have to focus on many faces at once in a gallery view or worry about how they look as they speak. That one person could be your next-door neighbor, your spouse, your co-worker, or even yourself. SUICIDE RISK & PROTECTIVE FACTORS Suicide Risk & Protective Factors. Some factors do exist that may put people at a higher risk for suicide. The presence of a single risk factor doesn’t necessarily mean that a person is at high risk of suicide, but a number of risk factors together should signal concern. POWER OF CONNECTEDNESS Research shows people have lower levels of anxiety and higher self-esteem when they feel more connected to others. Feelings of connectedness creates a more positive well-being for individuals. UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-CARE Over the past year, I have begun to feel some of the wearing effects of compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue can be defined as fatigue caused by empathy. It is the natural consequence of stress resulting from caring for and helping suffering or traumatized people. This concept was foreign to me before beginning my position here at The KimFoundation.
