We provide TERN data, samples and site-based research infrastructure freely to the Australian and international scientific communities research services. In recognition of these research services, we ask that AUSTRALIA’S ENVIRONMENT IN 2020 Improved rainfall conditions have pulled our environment out of its worst state on record, but recovery is slow, partial and precarious. That’s the main conclusion from Australia’s Environment, the latest in an annual series of environmental condition reports, released on Wednesday 31 March 2021. The report, and its website, provide a summary of key environmental indicators and how they TERN TEAM | MEET THE TEAM AT TERN AUSTRALIA We at TERN acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia, New Zealand and all nations. We honour their profound connections to land, water, biodiversity and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. TERN SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM 2021 The TERN Science Symposium 2021 is a forum for sharing both transdisciplinary and traditional approaches to ecosystem science research, technological development, data system innovation, collaboration and action. AUSTRALIAN SOILS AND LANDSCAPES The Australian Cosmic-Ray Neutron Soil Moisture Monitoring Network (CosmOz) delivers soil moisture data for 16 sites over an area of about 30 hectares to depths in the soil of between 10 to 50 cm. In 2020, the CosmOz soil moisture network, which is led by CSIRO, is set to be expanded to 23 sites.SUPERSITES - HOME

Systematic TERN monitoring in a national biodiversity hotspot has allowed identification of an exotic species of grass that nobody had seen for nearly 180 years. Find out how Koeleria macrantha was spotted in Tasmania’s Midlands and what the re-discovery may mean for the region’s ecosystems.THE BOTANISTS
We thank the botanists at Australia’s regional, state and national herbaria for their expertise, ensuring TERN’s open data accurately documents the diversity, distribution and state of the nation’s flora. Join our field botanists, at one of the first TERN monitoring sites established, as they re-survey the environment a decade later and remember the legacy of renowned botanist, David Symon. SUPERSITES - GREAT WESTERN WOODLANDS The Great Western Woodlands (GWW) comprises a 16-million hectare mosaic of temperate woodland, heathland and mallee vegetation in south-west Western Australia. It is the largest remaining intact temperate or 'Mediterranean' woodland in the world and is unique in being able to survive on as little as 250 mm annual rainfall. SUPERSITES - KARAWATHA PERI-URBAN From 2018 the SEQ Peri-urban SuperSite - Karawatha node becomes an Inactive SuperSite. Between January and September of 2007 a Program for Planned Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research (PPBio) grid was established as a long-term ecological research site (LTER) in Eucalypt forest at Karawatha Forest Park in Brisbane, Queensland Australia.* About__
