Research Commissioned by the National Forum. The National Forum funded a number of focused research projects which informed the Teaching for Transitions Enhancement Theme 2013-15. Project teams were selected from higher education institutions across the sector following a competitive process facilitated by an international panel. 1.4 WHY USE OER AND OEP? Overall, the benefits of using OER and OEP can be considered in three main areas: access, equity and pedagogy: Access: All can access, adapt and reuse OER created by others, e.g. to assist in the process of developing digital learning materials. Students have continual access to OER, without incurring costs or requiring access codes. FOCUS ON GRADUATE ATTRIBUTE STATEMENTS Focus On: Graduate Attribute Statements – what are they, and how can we use them? What do we mean by graduate attributes? Many universities, in recent years, have published formal statements1 of what they believe graduates of their programmes should be capable, in TRANSITION FROM SECOND LEVEL AND FURTHER EDUCATION … The research for this project involved a large survey (with 1,579 responses) and ten focus groups across these four higher-level institutions which generated a rich data set for analysis. EXPANDING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF ASSESSMENT AND FEEDBACK IN This insight aims to expand our understanding of the terms associated with assessment within the Irish higher education sector. It is the result of a number of national conversations organised by the National Forum with staff and students across the sector regarding how assessment might be defined and understood within an Irish context. WHY STUDENTS LEAVE: FINDINGS FROM QUALITATIVE RESEARCH This project reports on a systematic survey of existing qualitative data on student non-completion gathered by 16 Irish higher education institutions, including Universities, Institutes of Technology and HECA Colleges. NATIONAL UNDERSTANDING OF STUDENT SUCCESS Since 2013, the National Forum has been engaged in considerable work related to enabling student success. A sectoral focus on teaching for transitions (2013-2015) provided key insights on how transition periods can be successfully supported in higher education. The DELTA Awards are for disciplinary teams. The DELTA Award process involves a number of stages which are outlined in the DELTA Award interface and the accompanying handbook. All ‘intentions to submit’ will undergo an initial review by National Forum colleagues and, where required, by an international panel member and a studentrepresentative.

NATIONAL SEMINAR SERIES 2021/22 Supporting institutions to implement the National Professional Development Framework for All Staff Who Teach in Higher Education is a key initiative of the National Forum which is supported by associated resources for professional development, including open-access professional development short courses though opencourses.ie. It is the result of a number of national conversations organised by the National Forum with staff and students across the sector regarding how assessment might be defined and understood within an Irish context. WHY STUDENTS LEAVE: FINDINGS FROM QUALITATIVE RESEARCH This project reports on a systematic survey of existing qualitative data on student non-completion gathered by 16 Irish higher education institutions, including Universities, Institutes of Technology and HECA Colleges.
