BAYER ADMIT DEFEAT IN GROUNDBREAKING ROUNDUP CANCER CASE Bayer-Monsanto have announced that they will not be asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review a $20.6 million verdict awarded to former school groundskeeper, Dewayne Lee Johnson, who proved that their glyphosate-based herbicide Roundup causes cancer. GLYPHOSATE HERBICIDES CHANGE GENE FUNCTION AND CAUSE DNA Glyphosate-based herbicides such as Roundup activate mechanisms involved in cancer development, including DNA damage – and these effects occur at doses assumed by regulators to have no adverse effects, a new study shows. The DNA damage was caused by oxidative stress, a destructive imbalance in the body that can cause a long list of diseases, GMWatch reported Tuesday. GLYPHOSATE RELEASES DDT AND CHLORDECONE FROM SOIL INTO Sabatier and his colleagues hypothesized that glyphosate had accelerated soil erosion, thereby releasing DDT stored in the soils. They wanted to see if this phenomenon could be happening elsewhere and decided to look at the French West Indies, where banana growers used chlordecone to control weevils on plantations beginning in 1972.
