HOUSE & GARDEN UPDATE. We are delighted to announce that Strawberry Hill House is now open, Sunday – Thursday. Our Staff and Volunteers have been working incredibly hard to ensure that we offer a safe and welcoming environment for those visiting. In line with Government advice, we will be asking all our visitors to book ahead, with revised VISIT US - HOUSE & GARDEN - STRAWBERRY HILL HOUSE & GARDEN Strawberry Hill House & Garden has been open to visitors for over 250 years. Come and visit our house or explore our beautiful garden. Booking is Essential, with revised time slots to help us stagger numbers entering the House and ensure that social distancing can be maintained. General Admission. House & Shop – Sunday to Thursday:11am – 4pm.
HOW TO GET HERE
How to get here. Trains run on a circular route from London Waterloo to Strawberry Hill, with 4 trains per hour Monday-Saturday and 2 trains per hour on Sundays. The station is 5 to 10 minutes walk from the house, as signposted at the end of each platform. Take the District Line westbound to Richmond.HOUSE & GARDEN

LADY WALDEGRAVE. Famous for marrying four times and saving Strawberry Hill House from ruin, Lady Waldegrave was as empowered as she was eccentric – a worthy successor to Horace Walpole’s legacy. Born in 1821, Lady Frances Waldegrave (née Braham) inherited Strawberry Hill House through marriage to John Waldegrave, the grandson and successor THE MYSTERY OF THE PAINTING THAT INSPIRED 'THE CASTLE OF The mystery of the painting that inspired ‘The Castle of Otranto’ 29th March 2018. When we last left Silvia, she was on the hunt for the lost dagger of King Henry VIII.We rejoin her now in her quest to find another lost treasure of Strawberry Hill House: a painted portrait which inspired a gothic ghost story.. There is something truly magical about the work of a provenance researcher. THE CREATION OF THE WORD ‘SERENDIPITY’ The name of a song by a break out Korean pop music group, which became the first K-pop band to reach number one on the US album charts. ‘Serendipity’ is a Horace Walpole creation. Walpole further explains in his letter to Mann that he ‘once read a silly fairy tale, called The Three Princes of Serendip’. It is the Englishversion of a

OUR TEAM, TRUSTEES & PATRONS The Strawberry Hill Trust was formed in August 2002 with a mission to restore Horace Walpole’s Gothic villa and open it to a wider public. The Trust has taken over a 120 year lease from the Catholic Education Service, the owner of the property, and secured £10 million in funding to restore the building and garden.RESTORATION
RESTORATION. With generous support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, The World Monuments Fund, English Heritage, the local community and a number of Trusts and Foundations, £10 million was raised and the restoration of Strawberry Hill House & Garden was accomplished.It was opened to the public in October 2010 and in 2011 won the Georgian Group Award for the best restoration of an 18th century THE UNEXPECTED JEWISH PAST OF STRAWBERRY HILL HOUSE Probably born into a humble German Jewish family in Whitechapel in 1774, very little is known about John Braham’s childhood. He was orphaned at an early age, and taken in by Meyer Lyon (1750-1797), the Cantor of the Dukes Place Synagogue, better known to the THE CHOIR - STRAWBERRY HILL HOUSE & GARDEN THE CHOIR.
