What is a Monitor Engineer: A monitor engineer mixes the sound the musicians listen to onstage during a performance. Typically the musicians will be provided an individual mix with either speaker monitors or in-ear monitor systems (IEMS). I’ve been on the road for the better part of a decade, so I’ll easily admit that I’m biased in favor of tour life, but it’s fascinating to hear what other people think my work is like. Mostly they see the glamour of a life that some only dream of being paid to travel across the country or even the world.
