This brief reviews the federal and state shares of Medicaid spending and highlights a new measure on State Health Access Data Assistance Center’s (SHADAC) web-based data tool – State Health Compare. Our measure presents total Medicaid spending as a percent of state budgets, including trends over time and variation in spending bystate.

Using data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey, SHADAC researchers developed state-level profiles that give users a deeper look into flu vaccination rates across the states among U.S adults (age 18 +) as a proxy to identify population subgroups that may be harder to reach with a COVID-19 vaccine.Read more
