CONFUSION REIGNS FOLLOWING MCGIRT In terms of criminal cases, the U.S. Attorney's office of the Eastern District has estimated that as many as 4,000 cases could be appealed due to McGirt. That office is reported to have filed 361 cases involving crimes just on Creek land. That figure includes 69 murders. District 27 District Attorney Jack Thorp said 953 cases had been dismissed throughout District 27, which includes Sequoyah County. However, because the cases were dismissed doesn't mean they just go away or that prisoners are allowed to gofree.
