March 17th, 2021. European cities and towns are at the forefront of the reception and integration of refugees and migrants, and the new SHARE Network’s series “Mayors in the Spotlight” aims at celebrating and showcasing the leadership of local Mayors in smaller and rural municipalities across Europe, paving the way to a morewelcoming Europe.

In July 2016, as part of the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), the European Commission published its proposal for a Union Resettlement Framework. The SHARE QSN project, implemented from January 2021 to June 2023 and co-funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), supports pilot and ad-hoc sponsorship initiatives develop into sustainable, community-driven programmes, bringing together a consortium of actors in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and the UK who are all experienced in refugee AUSTRIA | EUROPEAN RESETTLEMENT NETWORK Resettlement Quota and Actors. WHAT IS RESETTLEMENT? Resettlement is a tool to provide international protection and meet the specific needs of refugees. It is a durable solution for refugees as well as a demonstration of international solidarity and responsibility-sharing. Follow the links below to find out more about the global resettlement process, and hear about the impact of this global protection tool for several refugees resettled to Europe. WELCOME TO THE SHARE NETWORK! Part of the European Resettlement Network (ERN), the SHARE Network promotes partnerships for refugee inclusion in local communities across Europe.. Established in March 2012 and led by ICMC Europe, SHARE provides a platform for mutual exchange and learning amongst local and regional actors working on or considering resettlement, and advocates for more and better resettlement in Europe. REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP AND STUDENT PATHWAYS According to UNHCR, only 4.5% of resettlement needs were met in 2019, despite the growing need for durable solutions for refugees. In order to expand higher education opportunities for refugees – under the Global Compact on Refugees and the Three-Year Strategy on Resettlement and Complementary Pathways – governments, universities, civil society organizations and other higher education THE POLICY FRAMEWORK The Commission outlined three main objectives, namely: 1) increasing the use of resettlement as a tool to provide greater and better targeted support to the international protection of refugees; 2) enhancing the strategic use of resettlement by identifying common priorities to inform the resettlement activities of Member States; 3)streamlining
