The fact Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) has such a long-established tradition means we have hundreds of years of empirical evidence (based on observation) that it is effective. It's natural, though, that with biomedicine now the dominant system of healthcare in most parts of the world, CHM has increasingly beenJOINING THE RCHM
Becoming a member of our organisation means you'll join a lively and supportive network of over 450 practitioners of Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) and enables you to access a range of specialist benefits, including CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and the opportunity to access audited supplies for your herbal medicines via our Approved Suppliers Scheme. TRAINING IN CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE The RCHM is committed to maintaining standards of professional excellence in the practice of Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) in the UK. The RCHM (Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine) is the only organisation in the UK that focuses on the herbal element of Chinese Medicine (CM). We help safeguard the public by setting professional standards, publishing expert information about CM, and enabling easy access to professional and high quality treatment via a register of certified practitioners. All members of the RCHM are required to have a degree-level qualification in Chinese Herbal Medicine (or equivalent), and are expected to prescribe using medicinal ingredients sourced only from approved suppliers. The RCHM also takes a strong line on ethics: its members are subject to strict rules that prohibit the use of material sourced in any form from endangered animals orplants.
Although herbal practice has always been at the heart of the RCHM's work, we also help ensure standards in the practice of all of the elements in the system of Chinese Medicine. This is because the majority of our members integrate practices other than Chinese Herbal Medicine into bespoke treatment plans for their patients: mostly acupuncture but also massage therapy (Tui Na), lifestyle and dietary advice, and movement therapies (Qi Gong and Tai Chi). Along with a commitment to professional excellence, it's a passionate belief in the benefits of CM's holistic and person-centred approach to healthcare that underpins everything we do as an organisation.
