What is Wireworld? Wireworld is a cellular automaton on an infinite square grid, invented by Brian Silverman in about 1984. It appeared as part of his ‘Phantom Fish Tank’ program in 1987, but we only found out about it when it was described in Scientific American in January 1990. The automaton has a similar flavour to J. The OR gate. The OR gate is the simplest of the logic gates in wires. The picture below shows an OR gate fed by two signals. The gate consists of five copper cells in a ‘plus’ shape.THE FINAL DESIGN
The final design. Here’s an overview of the computer, showing its various functional blocks. As you can see, the display shows ‘00059’. The computer is running an elegant program, due to Michael Fryers, which calculates primes.WHAT IS WIREWORLD?
What is Wireworld? Wireworld is a cellular automaton on an infinite square grid, invented by Brian Silverman in about 1984. It appeared as part of his ‘Phantom Fish Tank’ program in 1987, but we only found out about it when it was described in Scientific American in January 1990. The automaton has a similar flavour to J. H. Conway’s well-known ‘Game of Life’. MARK OWEN: CURRICULUM VITAE PERSONAL. Name: Dr Mark OWEN E-mail: mail -at- quinapalus -dot- com SKILLS.
