Step 1: Identify the substance as an Arrhenius acid or base using the following criteria.. The names of the acids end in “acid”. Acid formulas have one of these forms: HX(aq) or H a X b O c.. Ionic compounds that contain hydroxide (OH-) , carbonate (CO 3 2-) , or hydrogen carbonate (HCO 3-) anions are basic.Ammonia, NH 3, is also abase.
COMBUSTION ANALYSIS
Obtaining Empirical and Molecular Formulas from Combustion Data . There are two versions of the text. The atoms-first version provides a more complete description of atomic theory, chemical bonding, and chemical calculations early. The chemistry-first version has a early emphasis on descriptions of the structure of matter and the nature of chemical changes, postponing the description of unit conversions and chemical calculations. Both versions are available as regular printed books, but they are also available on the Internet with no usernamesand no passwords.
