Submarine Becuna (SS-319) is a Balao-class submarine launched on January 30, 1944 at Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut after nine months of construction. Youth who participate will learn about Philadelphia's surrounding rivers, including why and how to protect them. This year the Seaport Museum will offer two tracks, the River Ambassadors andthe SAILOR

Small Craft Plans. Independence Seaport Museum has an impressive collection of small craft plans that are available for study and copies for purchase. Many small craft vessels in the index were built, or refurnished, in the Workshop on the Water and some plans were drawn by former Workshop staff. The collection focuses on the traditional wooden small crafts indigenous of the Delaware River CRUISER OLYMPIA AND THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER These combined tropical storms subjected Cruiser Olympia, the crew, and the Unknown Soldier's remains to ride 20 to 30-foot waves for 10 days, nearly two-thirds of the Atlantic crossing. The cross-waves sporadically colliding with the ship's sides were the biggest threat to Olympia capsizing and the potential loss of the Unknown's remains. River Ambassadors. The Ambassador program at Independence Seaport Museum provides hands-on learning experiences for high school students. Youth who participate will learn about Philadelphia's surrounding rivers, including why and how to protect them. This year the Seaport Museum will offer two tracks, the River Ambassadors andthe SAILOR
WALNUT2WALNUT RIVER CHALLENGE The excursion begins at Schuylkill Banks and ends at Independence Seaport Museum's boat basin. The challenge course offers spectacular views of the city, while traveling almost 15 miles along both rivers. The Walnut2Walnut River Challenge is suitable for experienced paddlers looking for a new way to get in touch with Philadelphia’s waterways.KAYAK EXCURSIONS

Submarine Becuna (SS-319) is a Balao-class submarine launched on January 30, 1944 at Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut after nine months of construction. She was commissioned on May 27, 1944 and sent immediately to the Pacific Ocean where she engaged the naval forces of Imperial Japan during World War II. CRUISER OLYMPIA AND THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER These combined tropical storms subjected Cruiser Olympia, the crew, and the Unknown Soldier's remains to ride 20 to 30-foot waves for 10 days, nearly two-thirds of the Atlantic crossing. Chaperones play an important part in the success of every field trip. Independence Seaport Museum requires 1 chaperone (free) for every 10 children in your group, for grades K-12. Additional chaperones will be charged the group admission rate. Please make sure chaperones know their group's itinerary, students' names, and remind them to stay TUGBOATS: THE ART OF DAVE BOONE The exhibition, located in the Museum’s 2nd floor community gallery, presents the journey of one man’s lifelong love of tugboats. Tugboats: The Art of Dave Boone is curated by Dave Boone, an award-winning artist who built two careers from a single boyhood experience with a tug.
