Culture Collections - consists of four UK Culture Collections including: European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC), National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC), National Collection of Pathogenic Viruses (NCPV) and the National Collection of Pathogenic Fungi (NCPF). Culture Collections supply a range of products including: cell lines, primary cells, bacteria, mycoplasmas, viruses and fungi.CULTURE COLLECTIONS
About NCPV. The National Collection of Pathogenic Viruses is one of four Culture Collections of Public Health England. NCPV preserves well characterised authenticated human pathogenic viruses in a secure facility and is able to supply the agents, or nucleic acids derived from them, to the scientific community according to national and international guides.CULTURE COLLECTIONS
The European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC), a Health Protection Agency Culture Collection. This collection consists of more than 1100 cell lines originating from over 45 different species and a wide variety of tissues. All cell lines added to the collection undergo full quality control and authentication procedures. Cell lines can be supplied either as frozen or growingCULTURE COLLECTIONS
The National Collection of Type Cultures is one of four Culture Collections of Public Health England. Founded in 1920, NCTC is the longest-established collection of its type anywhere in the world, and also serves as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Microbial Resource Centre (MIRCEN). Public Health England (PHE) is the custodian of four unique collections that consist of expertly preserved, authenticated cell lines and microbial strains of known provenance for use in medical science and laboratory healthcare. All the collections are developed, managed and maintained by highly trained, dedicated staff who work in accordance with internationally recognised quality standards including certification to ISO 9001:2015. Cultures from the collections are used by scientists who need to reassure themselves and others that the materials they are using are authentic, so the conclusions to their studies are valid and relevant. This is particularly important where research may lead to peer-reviewed publications, for example, in drug discovery and vaccine efficacy studies. Authenticated reference strains are also of paramount importance for clinical diagnostic testing, food, water and environmental microbiology testing and validation studies.
