LABRADOR PUPPY PLAY BITING, NIPPING THE OWNER, HOW TO STOP HER From now on, if she does bite him, he must let out a loud yelp, like a hurt puppy. This will often be enough to make Lucy back off. She had bright clear eyes and a shiny coat. But her good looks were spoiled by an obvious problem: baldness. There were large irregular patches of hairless skin on both sides of the mid-section of her body. Latest dog control statistics show huge reduction in euthanasia rate of Irish stray dogs. The Dog Control Statistics for 2016 have just been released, showing that the number of dogs euthanased at Irish dog pounds continues to decline and now stands at 1,522. Back in the 1990s. SQUIRT THE CAT CAME HOME WITH A BROKEN JAW Squirt the cat came home with a broken jaw. Squirt featured on the Nine O’Clock News when he was just a kitten after he had been saved from drowning. A man had fished out a bag containing three kittens from the Dodder Canal. Two of them were dead, but the man carried out life-saving emergency treatment on the remaining one. LOUIS DEVELOPED A LUMP DUE TO A CAT FIGHT The lump that Anne had found was an abscess which had been caused by a cat bite. Louis must have come off worst in a fight with one of the bigger cats, being bitten badly on his side. The area was bruised and reddish-purple, and there was a dirty yellow discharge oozing from it. The only way that vets are able to cope ethically with the routine deliberate killing of pets is that it is nearly always done for the sake of the animal, to prevent suffering in a sick or elderly individual. However there are other times when a vet may be asked to euthanase a healthy animal, and this presents a much greater ethicalchallenge.
