Don't want to buy a bleeding edge server only to have it become a Windoze box or an expensive paper weight. Intel C202/204/206 chipsets and the Xeon-3 are compatible with OpenIndiana. Supermicro X7BSi works perfectly on OI 148. A good MB. Using a lower-speed Xeon Quad and 8GB ECC memor, plus two Seagate 7200.11 disks.OPEN SOURCE
OpenIndiana is a community supported operating system, based on the illumos kernel and userland.. It is open source, free to use, and suitable for servers and desktops.GRAPHICS ADAPTERS
Graphics Adapters. All hardware platforms with the following video graphics configuration are recommended for full hardware-accelerated 2D/3D graphics support: NOTE: Most drivers contain a list of supported GPU products. Some manufacturers incorporate hardware designs not supported by the video driver, in particular, notebook and all-in-one NETWORK UPS TOOLS (NUT) AND NUT MONITOR To use NUT with USB UPSes on OpenIndiana, you may have to discover (prtconf -v) and register (rem_drv/add_drv; generally a reboot is not required) the USB device node as an "ugen" device, not an "hid" device - even though you would use a "usbhid-ups" driver afterwards (nuances of the libusb library used underneath). 4.7 REMOTE GRAPHICAL LOGIN: USING XVNC AND GDM FOR ONE Basic premises. A reasonably clean installation of OI-151.1.7 (any version OI should do just fine), with Xvnc and gdm installed. Gnome and a window manager of your choice seems a good idea, if this exercise is to be at all meaningful.Menu
