EMPIRE STATE NATIVE POLLINATOR SURVEY The goal of the Empire State Native Pollinator Survey is to determine the conservation status of a wide array of native insect pollinators in nonagricultural habitats. Conservation status is typically determined from data on a species’ rarity, trends, and threats. For the Natural Heritage network overseen by NatureServe, this is theS-rank

The categories of federal status are defined by the United States Department of the Interior as part of the 1974 Endangered Species Act (see Code of Federal Regulations 50 CFR 17). The species listed under this law are enumerated in the Federal Register vol. 50, no. 188, pp. 39526 - 39527. The codes below without parentheses are those used in the Federal Register. BROOK SNAKETAIL GUIDE The Brook Snaketail has been confirmed in locations from 13 counties from the eastern portion of the state. While no population estimate has been made, they are known to occur in clear, fast-flowing streams and rivers with rocky and sandy substrate (New York Natural Heritage Program 2020, Donnelly 2004). More inventories are needed to determineGOLDENSEAL GUIDE
Goldenseal colonies are found at the bottom or mid-slopes of rich woodlands, often near streams. Sometimes the slopes are deeply dissected by runoff or they may consist of limestone talus and cliffs. The forests are usually mature with old logs and an open understorywith
PROJECT SCREENING REQUEST FORM Project Screening Request Form. The New York Natural Heritage Program will review locations of proposed projects, activities, and SEQR-subject actions for any records of rare species or significant natural communities in our database. We will report records which are in the vicinity of the location and for which impacts from the projector

Conservation status ranks, or S-ranks, reflect a species’ relative risk of extirpation from New York based on factors such as its geographic range, population size, number of occurrences, viability, population trends, and threats. S-ranks range from 1 to 5 with S1 being critically imperiled and S5 being widespread, abundant, andsecure.
ECOLOGICAL COMMUNITIES Ecology Program. An ecological community is a variable assemblage of interacting plant and animal populations that share a common environment. As part of the New York Natural Heritage Program inventory, a classification has been developed to help assess and protect the biological diversity of NEW YORK NATURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM GUIDES Plants and Animals. Data from our field sampling efforts will improve our understanding of ambient wetland health in urban-rural landscapes and expand our wetland assessment dataset to include previously unsampledbasins.
LAKE WATER CRESS GUIDE Habitat. In New York, Lake-cress is known from habitats of shallow, still water. These include marly ponds and lakes, silty or rocky shores of larger lakes, and oxbows or river backwaters, often becoming stranded on fluctuating shorelines (New York Natural Heritage Program 2008). Rivers and lakes, especially in cold, spring-fed water (Voss1985).
GREAT LAKES DEEPWATER COMMUNITY GUIDE Critically Imperiled or Imperiled in New York - Especially or very vulnerable to disappearing from New York due to rarity or other factors; typically 20 or fewer populations or locations in New York, very few individuals, very restricted range, few remaining acres (or WOODLAND AGRIMONY GUIDE A hardwood forest that occurs on well-drained sites, usually on ridgetops, upper slopes, or south- and west-facing slopes. The soils are usually loams or sandy loams. This is a broadly defined forest community with several regional and edaphic variants. The dominant trees include red oak, white oak, and/or black oak. ALVAR SHRUBLAND GUIDE Alvar pavement grasslands are dominated by herbaceous and nonvascular plants and usually have less than 10% cover of shrubs. Alvar shrublands have over 25% cover of dwarf, short, and tall shrubs (avg. 43% cover of shrubs). Alvar woodland ( guide ) Alvar woodlands have over 25% cover of trees 5 m or taller. COASTAL BARRENS BUCKMOTH GUIDE The Coastal Barrens Buckmoth is restricted to pitch pine-scrub oak barrens, including the Long Island Dwarf Pine Plains, on deep dry sands. It is also found on portions of the Nantucket heathlands with a lot of scrub oak. It is tolerant of either sparse canopy or no canopy(NatureServe 2010).
